Description

The monument comprises the remains of a souterrain of later prehistoric date represented by cropmarks visible on oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies on sloping ground in arable farmland at around 150m OD. It comprises a C-shaped souterrain some 3-4m wide and approximately 40m long. There is a well-defined pit contained within the curve of the souterrain and numerous slighter cropmarks in the immediate vicinity.

Souterrains were semi-underground storage buildings associated with above-ground prehistoric settlements and it appears that elements of this associated settlement may survive on this site.

The area to be scheduled encompasses the visible remains and an area around them in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is circular with a diameter of 90m as marked in red on the accompanying map.
