Description

The monument is a prehistoric settlement consisting of 11 platforms, scooped into the hillside, on which would have stood round houses. The area to be scheduled is quadrilateral. Its W side, which runs NS, is 185m long and passes through the NE corner of the fence enclosing improved ground beside the Duneaton Water; its S side, which runs EW, is 200m long; its E side, which runs NS, is 100m long, and its N side completes the quadrilateral, all as delineated in red on the attached plan.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as a well-preserved example of an unenclosed platform settlement of presumed later prehistoric date. its significance is increased by the presence of a range of other such settlement in the vicinity, giving the possibility of comparison between the sites.
