A Scheduled Monument in Wombleton, North Yorkshire

Stony Cross

Uploader's Comments

The Cross is a simple boulder which has a cross engraved into its top.Because of its design it is sometimes referred to as the "Hot Cross Bun" Its base is modern and has been placed into a circular cobbled area similar to that at Griff Cross near Rievaulx Abbey. The cross was placed at this point because at one time this is where six ancient tracks and roads met.
